    Anti Virus

    avast! 4 Home Edition Free for home & non-commercial use. Requires registration (free) which needs to be renewed. (Windows) On access scanning, automatic updates, good virus detection. ClamWin Open Source. (Windows, also for Linux, etc.) Lacks on access scanning, but good detection.

    Operating System

    Fedora Always free, always good, supported by Red Hat and my day to day OS for the last year or so. It Just Works™ out the box and has pretty complete hardware detection. Ubuntu Always free, always good, it Just Works™
